The PPG Modular 300 is a faithful recreation of one of the rarest and most
exclusive modular systems in synthesizer history. Originally developed by
Wolfgang Palm in Hamburg starting in 1975, the System 300 embodied a unique
philosophy: German engineering precision meeting uncompromising analog
power. It was the technological answer to the massive American systems of the
era, focusing on clarity, stability, and a highly efficient workflow.
A New Concept of Modularity
A defining characteristic of the original System 300 architecture was the design of
many functional units as Dual Modules (such as the Dual ADSR) to provide
maximum utility within a compact footprint.
In this reissue, we have enhanced this flexibility for the modern performer:
• Individual Module Focus: While the original system relied heavily on fixed
dual-configurations for envelopes and amplifiers, many of these legendary
circuits are now available as individual modules.
• Custom Configuration: This allows the user to scale their system precisely to
their needs —whether building a purist monophonic signal path or a complex
polyphonic setup —without being restricted by the original dual-unit
footprints.
Sonic Character
The reissue remains true to the 1975 sonic aesthetic. While many synthesizers of
that era were known for heavy saturation and "dark" tones, the System 300 offers
that "high-end analog sound" that later made PPG a legend:
• Precision: Ultra-fast envelopes and oscillators with exceptional tracking across multiple octaves.
• Transparency: A defined, powerful sound that remains clear even in complex patches, never becoming "muddy."
• Dynamics: Discrete VCA and filter stages that react vibrantly to control voltages, providing the "punch" associated with early Berlin School electronic music.

Why the System 300 Today?
In a world of standard clones, the PPG 300 reissue offers a refreshing alternative
for purists and sound explorers. It is the definitive tool for achieving that precise,
"silvery" analog sound that defined the pioneering work of artists like Tangerine
Dream and Klaus Schulze.
