The large studio monitor for maximum precision and flexibility
The Pivota 42 is ABACUS electronics' first large full-range studio monitor – a loudspeaker developed from practical experience and consistently oriented towards the requirements of demanding recording studios. Building on the success of the Mirra 14 and Mirra 15, which are used as reference loudspeakers in many studios, the desire quickly arose for a system with a similar sonic signature but significantly greater power reserves and more bass capability.
The Pivota 42 meets this requirement – and goes beyond. Featuring sophisticated amplifier technology, a uniquely flexible cabinet architecture, and uncompromising German manufacturing, it stands for precision, power, and adaptability. It's ideal for large control rooms, critical mixing and mastering, and high-quality music reproduction in the home high-end sector.
Thanks to our many years of experience, a well-established supply chain, and our own depth of development, we can offer the Pivota 42 at a price that is extremely competitive, even by international standards, despite using the highest quality components.

Development with and for professionals
The Pivota 42 was developed in close collaboration with several renowned music producers . The final tuning was not done in the lab, but directly in the studios where the speakers would later be used – a practical, iterative development process with a clear goal: absolute control, even under real-world working conditions .
3-way design with closed housing
The acoustic heart of the Pivota 42 consists of a heavy-duty 12" PA woofer , a 130 mm bass-midrange driver with a phase plug to optimize dispersion, and a fine fabric dome tweeter. The crossover frequencies are deliberately low—at 200 Hz and approximately 1300 Hz —to achieve particularly even energy distribution, excellent localization, and consistent timing. The user benefits from the system's coherence, particularly in the near field.
The cabinet is completely sealed , enabling precise impulse response and a low cutoff frequency without port resonance. Combined with a sophisticated, internally equalized drive system, the Pivota 42 achieves bass reproduction down to below 20 Hz (-3 dB) – powerful, deep, and exceptionally controlled.
Flexible thanks to rotatable mid-high unit
The name "Pivota" stands for one of the speaker's key features: The mid-high frequency unit is rotatable . It can be adjusted in 30° increments , allowing the speaker to be used either vertically or horizontally (left or right) – perfect for various studio or home theater setups.
For all three setup options, matching threaded bushings are integrated into the base and side panels. This allows the box to be quickly reconfigured and combined with matching feet or optional square steel tubes – ideal for residential setups with an industrial look.
DOLIFET power amplifiers – confident, precise, analogue
The Pivota 42 utilizes the DOLIFET amplifier technology developed by ABACUS – a fully analog amplifier circuit in which the power transistors are operated in an unusual arrangement . This enables very clean overall negative feedback , which is often problematic with conventional designs.
A key feature of DOLIFET technology is its virtually load-independent output behavior : Even with complex impedance curves, the amplifier remains stable, low-distortion, and sonically neutral. This ensures superior control over the connected drivers , regardless of frequency or level.
The woofer utilizes a bridged configuration of two DOLIFET stages—with ground-floating control and maximum voltage swing . The result is a deep, impulse-accurate bass with enormous power and precision.
Purely linear power supply – triple separated
The Pivota 42 completely dispenses with switching power supplies. Instead, it uses three separate, linear power supplies with toroidal transformers :
-
For the power amplifier stage (including active power rectifier)
-
For filter and low-power amplifiers
-
For control and protection circuits
This sophisticated power supply ensures an extremely stable, interference-free voltage foundation – an essential basis for the neutral and impulse-accurate sound that characterizes the Pivota 42.
Crossovers – analog or DSP-based
The Pivota 42 is available with two different active crossovers :
-
The analog version uses 4th order Linkwitz-Riley filters, targeted frequency response corrections and an all-pass filter for phase adjustment in the high frequencies.
-
The DSP-based variant is based on the same basic tuning, but is fully configurable via SigmaStudio from Analog Devices – including room-dependent EQs and freely definable signal processing.
Both variants undergo a separate testing routine before installation , and each finished box is measured and documented at the reference measuring station – for consistent quality.
Extensive setting options
On the back, the Pivota 42 offers the following controls:
-
Input Gain (6-stage)
-
Bass roll-off (6-stage, 12 dB/octave)
-
Bass level (6 levels)
-
High-shelf filter from approx. 1 kHz (6 stages)
-
Auto-standby function (can be switched off, 5 minutes run-on time)
-
Remote power-on via external switching voltage
These options make it easy to adapt to the room or setup – directly on the device, without additional hardware.
